Swami Ambikananda Saraswati began her spiritual studies at the age of twenty, when she met the guru Swami Venkatesananda, the world-renowned Himalayan monk. For the next twelve years, he trained
her in Yoga and Vedanta, encouraging her to study the inner meaning of Sanskrit scriptures by seeking their spiritual truths. This became the basis of her method of interpretive translation and teaching of
philosophy, meditation and Yoga. In 1998, on the banks of the Ganges in Rishikesh, India, Swami Ambikananda was initiated into the ancient
order of Saraswati by Swami Chidananda Maharaja, President of the Divine Life Society. She is also an acupuncturist and herbalist, and founder of the Traditional Yoga Association (based in the UK).
